About Us

Built by a Redleg. Made for Those Who Served.

Redleg Custom Woodworks was born the way most good things are — by accident.

After 20 years of service with the Iowa Army National Guard, Captain Scott Shirk retired with a brass canister sitting on his shelf. It was a fine piece of military tradition, but something was missing. So he pulled out an old lathe, turned a solid ash artillery round by hand, and set it in the canister.

A friend saw it. He had to have one. Then another friend. Then another.

That's how Redleg Custom Woodworks started — not with a business plan, but with a craftsman's hands and a soldier's pride.

Today, Scott runs the shop out of Iowa, handcrafting wooden artillery rounds, rockets, and military keepsakes for veterans, families, and anyone who wants to honor a life of service. His wife handles the books. His son — when he's home from college — lends a hand. Every piece that leaves the shop has been touched by someone who understands what it means to serve.

Whether you're looking for a retirement gift, a service award, or a keepsake to display with pride — you've come to the right place.

"Every round I turn carries the same honor and craftsmanship as that first one. That's not going to change."
— Scott Shirk, Founder & Veteran
